The Cardinal is one of our boldest beginner kits - a Northern Cardinal caught mid-flight, wings fully spread, entirely crimson. A single colour, maximum impact.

Beginner level. 2 to 3 hours of build time. Pre-cut and pre-scored on heavyweight cardstock. No scissors, no printing, no experience needed.

The finished sculpture is a piece of living colour for any shelf or wall. The low poly facets give depth and dimension to what might otherwise be a simple shape - the geometry does all the work.

Part of the Poly Paper Craft Canadian wildlife collection. Designed in Montreal since 2016.

Every kit includes:

  • Pre-cut and pre-scored papercraft sheets on heavyweight cardstock
  • A practice kit: a tiny mushroom, to learn the fold technique before you start (a little bit tricky on purpose)
  • Step-by-step instructions in 6 languages (FR/EN/ES/PT/IT/DE)
  • Glue not included

No scissors needed. No printing. Everything is ready to fold.

The bird that stays when all others leave.

The Northern Cardinal (Cardinalis cardinalis) does not migrate. While most birds head south as temperatures drop, the cardinal stays - a flash of red against the snow that has made it one of the most recognizable winter birds in Canada.

The cardinal's range has been expanding northward for over 200 years. Once restricted to the southern United States, it has gradually established itself across southern Ontario, Quebec, and the Maritime provinces, helped along by milder winters and the spread of backyard bird feeders.

Among male Northern Cardinals, colour plays a decisive role: males that are brighter red are more successful than their paler counterparts. They secure better territories, attract more mates, and feed more frequently. The intensity of red is directly linked to diet and health.

This kit captures that iconic spread-wing pose - an explosion of red, frozen in geometric paper.
