The Puffin is a low poly Atlantic puffin captured mid-stride, walking forward on its vivid orange feet. It is one of the most instantly recognizable birds in Canada - and one of our most joyful kits.

3 to 4 hours of build time. Pre-cut and pre-scored on heavyweight cardstock. No scissors, no printing, no experience needed.

The finished sculpture has real personality. The bold colour contrasts - white, black, orange - make it a standout piece on any shelf. A perfect tribute to Newfoundland's provincial bird.

Part of the Poly Paper Craft Canadian wildlife collection. Designed in Montreal since 2016.

Every kit includes:

  • Pre-cut and pre-scored papercraft sheets on heavyweight cardstock
  • A practice kit: a tiny mushroom, to learn the fold technique before you start (a little bit tricky on purpose)
  • Step-by-step instructions in 6 languages (FR/EN/ES/PT/IT/DE)
  • Glue not included

No scissors needed. No printing. Everything is ready to fold.

Newfoundland and Nova Scotia's favourite seabird - the ocean's little tuxedo.

The Atlantic Puffin (Fratercula arctica) is the official bird of Newfoundland and Labrador - and for good reason. Approximately 95% of all North American puffins breed along the coasts of Newfoundland and Labrador. The largest colony in the Western Atlantic, with 225,000 breeding pairs, is found at the Witless Bay Ecological Reserve, just 32 km south of St. John's.

Known variously as the "Sea Parrot," "Clown Bird," and "Hatchetface," the puffin is unmistakable: a small black-and-white body, vivid orange feet, and that extraordinary orange, red and yellow bill. In winter, the bill turns grey - most people would not recognize it as the same bird.

What the puffin lacks in size it makes up for in ability. It can dive up to 60 metres underwater and hold its breath for nearly a minute. Its most remarkable feat: a tongue and upper mouth lined with backward-pointing spines that let it hold fish in place while it catches more. The record is 62 fish held in a single bill at once.

Atlantic puffins live 30 or more years - and return every breeding season to the same island where they were born.
