The Humpback Whale is a low poly rendering of one of the ocean's most celebrated animals - a humpback captured mid-swim, its full horizontal form stretching across the display surface. It is our most dramatic marine kit.

2 to 3 hours of build time. Pre-cut and pre-scored on heavyweight cardstock. No scissors, no printing, no experience needed.

The finished sculpture is a commanding display piece. Deep blue and white, geometric and fluid at once - the kind of object that fills a wall with quiet presence.

Part of the Poly Paper Craft Canadian wildlife collection. Designed in Montreal since 2016.

Every kit includes:

  • Pre-cut and pre-scored papercraft sheets on heavyweight cardstock
  • A practice kit: a tiny mushroom, to learn the fold technique before you start (a little bit tricky on purpose)
  • Step-by-step instructions in 6 languages (FR/EN/ES/PT/IT/DE)
  • Glue not included

No scissors needed. No printing. Everything is ready to fold.

Meet your animal.

The singer of the deep.

The humpback whale (Megaptera novaeangliae) is found in both the Pacific and Atlantic waters of Canada. On the west coast, it feeds in the waters off British Columbia in summer before migrating south toward Hawaii for the winter. On the east coast, it appears seasonally along the shores of Newfoundland and the Gulf of St. Lawrence.

Male humpback whales produce complex, evolving songs that can last for hours. These songs travel enormous distances through the ocean - and change over time, with new phrases spreading through populations like cultural trends. Every male in a given population gradually adopts the same new song, then it changes again.

Many Indigenous Nations of Canada's west coast have had a deep connection with humpback whales for millennia. Among nations such as the Haida, Heiltsuk, and Nuu-chah-nulth, humpback whales are sacred animals that bring good luck and fortune - honoured in traditions, stories, and art that long predate written records.

This kit renders the humpback in its most iconic posture: horizontal, mid-swim, long pectoral fins swept back, the full length of the animal on display.
