The Barn Owl is a low poly bust of Canada's rarest owl species - perched on a wooden log, heart-shaped face forward, with that distinctive white and gold colouring. It is a piece of quiet elegance for any space. A beautiful accent piece to your cottage decor.

3 to 4 hours of build time. Pre-cut and pre-scored on heavyweight cardstock. No scissors, no printing, no experience needed.

The finished sculpture has a sculptural, almost architectural quality. The heart-shaped face, rendered in geometric facets, is unlike anything else in the collection.

Part of the Poly Paper Craft Canadian wildlife collection. Designed in Montreal since 2016.

Every kit includes:

  • Pre-cut and pre-scored papercraft sheets on heavyweight cardstock
  • A practice kit: a tiny mushroom, to learn the fold technique before you start (a little bit tricky on purpose)
  • Step-by-step instructions in 6 languages (FR/EN/ES/PT/IT/DE)
  • Glue not included

No scissors needed. No printing. Everything is ready to fold.

One of Canada's rarest birds - now in your hands.

There are an estimated 650 Barn Owls (Tyto alba) left in Canada. The species is classified as Endangered in eastern Canada and Threatened in British Columbia - restricted to small populations in southern Ontario and the Lower Mainland of B.C.

In Europe, where older architecture is often left intact, the Barn Owl is relatively common. It nests in church steeples, old stone barns and graveyards - earning it the nickname "graveyard owl." In Canada, the conversion of wooden farm buildings to modern, bird-proof structures has eliminated much of its nesting habitat.

What makes the Barn Owl exceptional is not its rarity but its hunting ability. A nesting pair and their young can consume more than 4,000 rodents in a single year - making the Barn Owl one of the most effective pest controllers in nature. Their heart-shaped face functions as a parabolic dish, funnelling sound directly to their ears with extraordinary precision.

This kit - a bust on a wooden log, face forward, dark eyes fixed on the viewer - captures the quiet authority of one of Canada's most imperilled birds.
