The Otter is one of our most detailed kit - a river otter standing upright, holding the practice mushroom in its paws. A screen free activity that rewards patience with something genuinely beautiful.

5 to 6 hours of build time. Pre-cut and pre-scored on heavyweight cardstock. No scissors, no printing, but significant patience and dexterity required.

The finished sculpture has extraordinary presence. The upright posture, the two-tone colouring, and the fine facial detail make this one of the most lifelike pieces in the collection. Not recommended for kids.

Part of the Poly Paper Craft Canadian wildlife collection. Designed in Montreal since 2016.

Every kit includes:

  • Pre-cut and pre-scored papercraft sheets on heavyweight cardstock
  • A practice kit: a tiny mushroom, to learn the fold technique before you start (a little bit tricky on purpose)
  • Step-by-step instructions in 6 languages (FR/EN/ES/PT/IT/DE)
  • Glue not included

No scissors needed. No printing. Everything is ready to fold.

Meet your animal.

Canada's most playful waterway resident.

The North American river otter (Lontra canadensis) is found from Newfoundland to Vancouver Island and north to the Yukon Territory - in every province and territory except Prince Edward Island. It thrives wherever there is clean water and sufficient prey.

River otters can hold their breath for up to eight minutes underwater. They are near-sighted on land but see clearly below the surface, using a transparent membrane to cover their eyes like built-in goggles. In winter, they travel by sliding along the ice at distances of six metres or more per slide - an activity that appears, by all accounts, to be purely for enjoyment.

Otters are known as indicator species: their presence in a waterway signals clean water and a healthy ecosystem. Where otters thrive, the water is good.

This kit stands the otter upright, holding the practice mushroom in its paws - an echo of the otter's natural dexterity, and a wink at the craft itself. It is the most detailed and technically demanding kit in our collection.
